7 Tips to Keep Positive and Focus on Goals

Everyone has those days when they feel like they are up against a wall and can’t get through it. It’s easy to let negative thoughts creep in and cause us to feel unmotivated, doubtful and stressed about not meeting our goals.

Keep Positive and Focus on Goals

Even I find myself laser focused about being positive and looking ahead at my goals. It's sometimes a difficulty that we all face, and we can never let our guard down to negative surroundings. Positive people need to shine even when the chips are down.

What I have learned is these feelings will come and go; it is how you react to them that will help steer you in the right direction. Keeping a positive frame of mind during challenging times is a huge part of accomplishing your goals.

And when things suck. Well, you envision the moment when it's not that way anymore. I've become so stubborn that I refuse to acknowledge the sucky part of life. It's going to blow away at some point anyway. So why give it any energy at all!

If you are wondering how to keep positive and focused on goals, let me share with you a few of my tips to keeping the positive vibes rolling!

1. Focus on what you can control.

You can’t control the thoughts and actions of others. All you can do is take responsibility for your own thoughts and actions. If you are focusing on negative thoughts, let them go and focus on the positive aspects of your situation.

Work on what you can control. Take what you have learned from your challenges and apply it to your next goals. Focus on what you can control and direct your thoughts towards that rather than what you can’t control. Not everything is roses, but not everything is bad either.

2. Set small, attainable goals.

Rather than setting one huge goal, break it down into smaller, more attainable goals. That way, you can celebrate your successes along the way rather than waiting until you hit a big milestone. You’ll be able to stay positive and motivated if you have smaller goals to focus on. It will make your journey a lot more fun and less stressful.

You may want to create a vision board to help keep you focused on your goals and visualize what you want. I use long lists and cross off tasks as they come.

3. Reward yourself

When you reach your smaller goals, celebrate! It is so important to reward yourself for a job well done. It will help you stay motivated and keep you positive on your journey to your bigger goals. You don’t have to spend a lot of money on yourself for the celebration.

I think it's important to acknowledge what you have done. And then what you can do. Embark on something you like and take a minute. Just make sure you are choosing something that will not derail your progress.

4. Stay away from negative people and environments.

Negative people will bring you down and make you feel bad about yourself. If you are around people that are bringing you down, you need to make a conscious effort to stay away. They will not help you stay motivated and focused on your goals.

This is always a tough one. I mean we sometimes end up working with people and places that are not healthy for us. So if that's the case, minimize your time there. Make a decision to leave it when you go home and never, ever invite these people into your circle. As for working with negative people, the key is minimize the time.

5. Don’t burn yourself out by trying to do too much at once.

You’ll only accelerate your stress level and possibly cause even more harm than good. You can’t do everything in a day and expect to still feel positive about yourself. Try to focus on one or two tasks at a time. Give yourself a time limit on each task.

Then when you are done with that task, either move on to the next or take a break. Avoid multi-tasking if you can because it will just lead to frustration. Focus on one thing at a time and you will feel a lot better.

6. Meditate to reset your mindset and feel better about yourself.

Meditation is a great way to clear your mind, relax and focus on your goals. Ok, so you don't meditate and you'd rather find a better way to feel better about yourself? I get you! So meditation is a very fancy word and it is one that's throw around in a way that's not so healthy. All you need to do is find something that is relaxing and pushes away the stresses of the day for a short time.

Find what works best for you and use it daily. A walk? Playing a video game? Looking at the sky? Reading? What might fit your lifestyle. When your mind is cluttered with negative thoughts, it can be hard to focus on what you need to do to achieve your goals. Move those thoughts and concerns out intentionally with an action (or no action) that will help you regroup and focus once again.

7. Be proud of what you have already accomplished.

Regardless of how far you have come, be proud of yourself for getting this far. Whether you have been working towards your goals for months or years, pat yourself on the back and let go of the stress and doubt.

You have accomplished amazing things with what you have. It may be frustrating not to have met your goals yet, but know that you are doing the best you can with what you have. Be thankful that you are still trying and don’t give up. Keep these tips in mind the next time you are feeling like you are up against a wall and can’t get through it. Stay positive and focused on your goals and you will be able to get through it.

In Closing

I have to point out it's not always easy to keep positive and focus on your goals. That's why you need to make a point to be positive and keep your goals first place. The world is a a busy place and if you aren't careful, you might find yourself doing everything but what is important to you!
